چکیده

Tire and road wear particles (TRWP), which contribute significantly to microplastic emission, are receiving more attention, but details about particle composition, translocation from source sink, particularly the possible effects on ecosystems largely unknown. We examined influence of native TRWP-containing sediments two settling ponds mortality behavior aquatic larvae Chironomus riparius. Both sediments, whether pure or mixed with different proportions quartz sand suspended in water, led increased mortalities increasing concentrations were shown be oxygen consuming. Artificial aeration reduced larval both sediments. Chironomid show high tolerance anoxic polluted environments due physiological behavioral adaptations, such as construction vertical sediment tubes (chimneys), they create oxic compartments. A significant correlation was found between proportion contaminated number chimneys: sediment, fewer chimneys constructed. The per surviving larva decreased an parallel mortality. hypothesize that contents these negatively impact larvae’s ability survive at low impairments essential processes.

Acute toxicity of waterborne Cd, Cu, Pb, Ni, and Zn to first-instar Chironomus riparius larvae.

The acute toxicities of waterborne Cd, Cu, Pb, Ni, and Zn were determined in the first-instar larvae (generally considered to be the most sensitive) of Chironomus riparius, under standardized conditions. Toxicity tests were conducted in soft water (hardness, 8 mg/L as CaCO(3) equivalents) in the absence of food and were limited to 24 h to avoid control mortality associated with food deprivation...

a comparison of teachers and supervisors, with respect to teacher efficacy and reflection

A Determination of Metallothionein in Larvae of Freshwater Midges (Chironomus riparius) Using Brdicka Reaction

Among wide spectrum of biomolecules induced by various stress factors low molecular mass protein called metallothionein (MT) is suitable for assessment of the heavy metal environmental pollution. The aim of this work was to determine the metallothionein and total thiols content in larvae of freshwater midges (Chironomus riparius) sampled from laboratory exposure to cadmium(II) ions and from fie...

Toxicity of fullerene (C60) to sediment-dwelling invertebrate Chironomus riparius larvae.

An environmentally realistic method to test fullerene (C(60) ) toxicity to the benthic organism Chironomus riparius was created by allowing suspended fullerenes to settle down, making a layer on top of the sediment. To test the hypothesis that higher food concentrations will reduce toxic responses, two food concentrations were tested (0.5 and 0.8% Urtica sp.) in sediment containing fullerene ma...

Bioaccumulation of perfluoroalkyl compounds in midge (Chironomus riparius) larvae exposed to sediment.

Midge larvae (Chironomus riparius) were exposed to sediments from a deposition sampled at a site along the Rhône River (France) downstream of an industrial site releasing various perfluorinated chemicals. This sediment is characterized by high concentrations of perfluoroundecanoic acid (PFUnA) and perfluorotridecanoic acid (PFTrDA) and a low perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS) concentration. Conce...
